Ribble Valley's History

You'll see there's more to Ribble Valley than meets the eye as you delve into its bygone age and colourful past. It's simply brimming with treasures!

Ribble Valley is the largest district in Lancashire, where the majority of the landscape forms part of the Forest of Bowland. Its two market towns, Clitheroe and Longridge, and 44 villages are set in a peaceful and stunning landscape offering panoramic views and a rich heritage.

The area is so called due to the River Ribble, which flows through Ribble Valley in it's final stages towards its estuary near Preston.

The "Ribble Way" (a waymarked walk) 70 mile (113km) long follows the course of the River Ribble from it's source at Ribblehead to the estuary at Preston; passing through a variety of landscapes including limestone gorge, open moorland and tidal marsh.
