Discover the Medieval Monasteries of Lancashire with Lancashire Adult Learning
The course is for everyone who is interested in history and the history of ideas and everyone who has ever wanted to know more about Medieval Lancashire.
This session is designed to give the learner an introduction to the life and times of the Medieval Monastery. We will begin with looking at the creation and development of the monasteries in England and the Benedictine Rule. We will investigate the sites of the key monasteries of Lancashire including the power and influence of Furness Abbey and Whalley Abbey and the men and women associated with them. Finally, we will see what happened to the monasteries of Lancashire during the dissolution of the monasteries under Henry VIII. This event is free to all adults over 19.
