Magnificent Miniature Shield Crafts at the Castle

Get creative with our miniature shield crafts! Your young explorers can design and decorate their very own mini wooden shield magnet or badge to take home (£2.00).
Using felt‑tip pens, create a shield that shows who you are! You could draw a family crest, a fun medieval picture, or even try the famous De Lacy lion. The De Lacy family built Clitheroe Castle and a big, brave lion standing on its back legs, showed strength and courage.
Whether you choose a lion, a castle, or something totally your own, you’ll have great fun making your shield. Museum admission does not apply to take part. Drop into our craft area throughout the day. There’s our cosy reading corner, packed with fascinating books all about castles and life in the past to relax in too.
If you’re ready for a quest, your young adventurers can join in with The Lost Sword Hunt because the Knights of Clitheroe Castle need some help! Their miniature swords have gone missing somewhere in the museum galleries. Can you track them down?
Search high and low to discover how many tiny swords you can find, then enter our competition for the chance to be the lucky winner of a goody bag filled with souvenirs from our shop. Free with museum admission – all children go free.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
