Clitheroe Hosts Major Clog dancing championship

Clog dancing teams from across the UK, among them Camden Clog from London and the famous Lancashire Wallopers, bashed the boards to traditional live music In Clitheroe The Clitheroe Clog Fest has been organised by the Oakendale clog dancing team from Rossendale, with the support of Ribble Valley Borough Council and the Clitheroe Castle Museum. It is expected to become an annual event each September. Rachel O’Neill, of the Oakendale clog dancing team, added: “We are delighted to be returning to Clitheroe, which is the ideal location for this traditional dance form.

“Clog dancing keeps you fit, is good for your health and wellbeing, gets you out and about, and keeps our culture and heritage alive, it was a fantastic clog fest, particularly the mass dance, which was great fun.”

Ribble Valley Tourism Officer Tom Pridmore added ‘Events like this are important for tourism, they bring visitors from all over the country, many visiting the valley for the first time’.
