A Stroll Across Clitheroe’s Limestone Ridge

This year’s Clitheroe Town Wells Conservation Campaign (CTWCC) contribution to Heritage Open Days will link our three pre-Norman well sites to other local key sites.
This guided walk will explore Clitheroe’s ancient former Public Town Wells, Clitheroe Castle and St Mary Magdalene’s Church.
The walk offers more than scenic views. It’s a living narrative of Clitheroe’s geological backbone and cultural soul—linking medieval water sources, ecclesiastical heritage, and resilient community stewardship.
The route has been carefully curated to engage both local residents and visitors with stories that span centuries, from pre-Norman springs to Victorian expansion.
